Have you ever looked at an ice cream pail and thought "This would make a cute Easter basket or flower girl basket"? Well, it can.
There is no need to toss the ice cream buckets into the trash or even the recycling bin. Plastic ice cream pails can easily be transformed into beautiful Easter baskets, whimsical flower girl baskets, or gift baskets for any occasion.
Supplies Needed:
Use a 4 or 5 quart ice cream pail, they work the best. The lid will not be needed so you can toss it in the recycling bin unless you can come up with a crafty use for it.
Use spray paint for plastics in the color of your choice (You can paint over the lable, use it to cover stains, or to change the handle color).
Grab 2-3 pieces of scrapbook paper. A solid color or simple print is best so you don’t have to match up patterns.
You will want ribbon in a color to match or complement the scrapbook paper
Use scalloped edge lace, flat lace doesn’t work well; you want the lace to puff out.
Hot glue gun and glue sticks
Scissors
Scrap paper to practice
Decoupage glue
Sponge
A flat container to put water in
Green Supply Options
The basket is a great green option because you are repurposing it but you can also make the craft even greener by using these supplies.
organic, natural or biodegradable ribbon
Vintage or organic lace
scrapbook paper made from tree free or recycled paper
Directions
Clean out the pail and let it dry thoroughly.
If the bucket has issues, if you don’t like the handle color or want the pail to be a color other than white spray the pail in a well ventilated area.
Choose a couple pieces of scrapbook paper that co-ordinate well with your wedding colors. Make patterns on scrap paper to fit the bucket.
Cut out the pieces of scrapbook paper and make sure they fit well on your bucket. You may want to do a mock-up with scrap paper to make sure everything fits before you cut your good paper.
Start gluing your pieces onto the bucket. Spread the glue across the back of the paper and apply to bucket. Using the damp sponge, smooth it over to push out excess glue and adhere the paper to the bucket firmly. Attach all your paper to the bucket. Smooth out all the bubbles and wrinkles so everything dries nice and flat.
After the paper is dry, preferably overnight, glue on your ribbon to the upper lip. Start at one side by the handle and inch by inch add hot glue to attach the ribbon.
After your ribbon is attached you can do the same with the lace. Start at one edge in the handle area and go all the way around until you reach the other side.
Once you are finished you will have an amazing ice cream pail made into a fabulous basket for a wedding, Easter, or gift giving.
