Incorporate the chalkboard look in your big day from the colors and invitations to the décor and favors.

Traditional chalkboards come in both black and dark green, with the traditional chalk being white. These colors, whether you choose two or all three, complement each other nicely and should lend your reception a chic but playful feel.

Unique invites

Set the mood for your wedding with playful chalkboard-inspired invites.

Instructions

  1. Purchase a small chalkboard and white chalk from your local dollar store.
  2. Write your invitation on the chalkboard. (You can enlist a friend's help if your handwriting isn't the best.)
  3. Place the chalkboard on your home scanner and scan onto your computer.
  4. Once the image is on your computer, upload it to vistaprint.com and select "wedding invitations."
  5. Place your order, and you're done!

Chalk it up to Good Decoration

Decorating for chalkboard-inspired wedding is surprisingly easy— thanks to handy cans of chalkboard spray-paint. These come in both black and dark green, and can be used on almost any surface.

For a large-enough-for-grandma-to-read menu, purchase a piece of ply board at your local hardware store and paint it with chalkboard paint. Depending on the style of your reception, you can either write out the courses or list the different finger foods available. If listing finger foods, consider doing a couple different boards placed so that guests can tell which food is which.

Small dollar store chalkboards are also helpful in labeling different areas of the reception, such as the guest book table or the photo booth, and can be hung by the string usually attached or propped up by plate holders.

Favors, Décor, Seat Assignments…Multi-taskers!

To check off a couple different to-do items at once, consider chalkboard-paint-covered candles. Although you can purchase chalkboard candles already made, it’s cheaper to purchase regular candles and use your handy chalkboard paint to make them yourself.

Write each person’s name and table number on a candle and place them on a table near the front of the reception. Each guest can pick up their candle and bring it to their table. With these all around each table—with green and white flowers in the middle—the reception will look put-together but fun.

As guests are leaving the reception, encourage them to take their candles and pick up a pack of chalk on the way out, so that they can change the look of their favor over and over. A favor that guests will actually use again is definetely a good idea!

One Last Chalkboard

Make sure when you order your invites that you get matching thank-you cards. These sent out after the festivities will remind guests of your unique and fun day.
